Your internet marketing efforts can be supplemented by networking. Here is how to network for maximum results

As an SEO company we see many of our Toronto and GTA based clients invest a lot in online marketing, but neglecting other effective forms of marketing. We always advise them to identify and develop additional forms of effective marketing in order to enhance and leverage their internet and SEO marketing efforts.

One effective marketing skill is networking. 
The benefits of networking are many:

You can use networking to create relationships with other business people who can refer their clients to you, either off or on-line (through their websites / newsletter / social media).

Through networking you can find business owners to whom you can refer clients for work that is related to your business but that you currently don't do. You can establish an agreement by which you share the profit with these business owners.

You can look for and find potential clients that have a need for your service.

You can create relationships with people who may have a need for your services one day and may become your clients if you'll keep in touch with them till the need arise.

You may meet business owners that will help you find opportunities that you are currently unable to see. Their experience and connections can help you discover opportunities that you may not be able to discover by yourself.

The challenge with networking is that in order to be effective it has to be dine right.

There are good books on networking and we advise that you'll read some of them as soon as you can.
Here are some points that we found are important to pay attention to:

Don't just be there on time. Come 30 minutes before the event starts so you'll have time to get used to the environment and to talk to enough people.

Don't try to sell anything. When we go to a networking event we don't try to sell ourselves as a provider of web development and SEO services in Toronto. We try to see how we can help the other person. For this you'll need to listen and learn about the other person's business. The best way to help someone is to give them business (a referral).

Don't forget to follow up. Too many people spend time, money and energy on networking events and then don't follow up with the people they spoke to. Don't let this happen to you.
